Hello! My name is Andrés (Dre) Barrera and I am a current undergraduate junior, studying Computer Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. I strive to find creativity and innovation in every one of my projects and know ambition to be the root of my progress. I often refer to myself as a modern day Renaissance Man, as I find my studies leading me in many different directions, with expertise in a diverse variety of fields. My objective is to excel as a student, employee, and person in all areas of science, engineering, language, social sciences, and liberal arts, and to grow as a human being.

Since I was young, I have always been fascinated by the ability to create. From digital projects to physical products, I enjoy every step of the innovation process. New ideas flow through my brain like water through a channel, an asset which I would not give up for the world.

Undergraduate Studies (2018 - Present) - In 2018, I graduated high school at the age of 16, two years younger than most students in the United States. Afterwards, I enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Texas in San Antonio for a year. Within this year, I took basic university-level Calculus and Physics courses, as well as other courses such as Engineering Graphics and Elementary Russian. In my Engineering Graphics class, I further expanded my knowledge of Computer Aided Design, which I had learned in my high school aerospace program, with pracitce in AutoCAD and Solidworks. After my first year, I transferred to Purdue University for the rest of my undergraduate career as a Computer Engineering major. At Purdue, I have taken many engineering-based classes, expanding my knowledge of math, physics, polymers, and electrical fundamentals,as well as C and Python Programming. Throughout my time here, I have built connections within the engineering community and worked on my design & engineering passion project and company, Wanderlust Design (more information below).

Geoamperic Reader (2020) - My most recent project has been the Geoamperic Reader. For the last several months, I have been working on a computer of unique design, equipped to locate subterranean holes in industrial liners. This work was requested by Leak Location Services, Inc., an engineering firm located in San Antonio, TX, for which I interned over the Summer of 2020.

Graphic, Web, and Marketing Design

Design has been a big part of my education and career since I was young. Starting with the technology applications class in early middle school, I found an affinity for graphics and website design. Since then, my technological understanding has grown more than ever with programming efficiency in languages of HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, PHP, Macros, C, and Python and an advanced understanding of graphic design with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and other applications. In early 2020, I started Wanderlust Design, a design-based enterprise with the goal of travesing the globe. Wanderlust Design offers graphic, website, and project design to international and domestic businesses alike. I believe that Wanderlust Design will take me to new lands to meet new people in ways that many never have the opportunity to. Learn more about Wanderlust Design here!

Foreign Language

Another promising asset of mine is my aptitude for language. As a child, my military family was stationed in Japan, forcing me to become familiar with Japanese. Since then, I have gained fluency in Spanish, and am conversational in Russian, and German. Language is of great interest to me and I find ease in recognizing speech and grammar patterns. I hope to one day gain fluency in many more languages and continue to persue new methods of cross-cultural communication, as it builds bridges and overcomes barriers between great civilizations, scholars, and ideas.

I have established a presence in the world of music with genreless tracks published by an independent record label, Prodigy Studios. My first album, gold., will be released on December 04, 2020, under the artist name Dre Barrera. Since releasing my first single, King, I have released several other tracks under the artist names of FIO and Dre Barrera. Find more music here!
